The Thinking Blogger Award

L

Thank you go both Habeas Brulee and The Village Vegetable for your incredibly kind words and the Thinking Blogger Award. For those that don’t know, the Thinking Blogger Award is a meme that lets you give a shout out to some of your favorite blogs that make you think. Most of the blogs that I read are food blogs, and you already know about those… if you don’t, they are listed over on the side. Book yourself off for a day or two and indulge.

For my Thinking Blogger Award, I’m going a different way… to blogs that aren’t necessarily about food at all. They might touch on the subject on occasion, or course, but as a rule, they aren’t actually food blogs.

My first choice won’t surprise anyone who reads Still Life With…. I link to the site almost every couple of weeks. But for my Cook & Eat readers who are interested in photography, I know of no better place to learn than Strobist. This site is simply packed with info on how to light studio shots, but it’s really more than that. It’s about how to think like a photographer, and how to read light and compose great images. It’s also a whole community of people who are learning right along with you. Great, great stuff.

Next up is a site dedicated to one of my other passions, travel writing. The Written Road is a great place to go for inside info on the travel writing industry, from how tos, to calls for submissions, to personal stories. Started by Jen Leo, the editor of the fabulous women’s travel humor books Sand in My Bra and Other Misadventures and Whose Panties are These?, The Written Road is always educational and fun to check in on.

Tonx is a local coffee hero in Seattle. Or, at least he was until he left us to bring the joys of third-wave coffee to the rest of the world. Now, I have to follow along on his blog as he spreads his caffeinated wisdom elsewhere.

Tony is a friend and former colleague (ok, some might have said boss) at my previous POE. He was both fun and funny to work for… but his blog is even more entertaining. You must read the tales of his sons. But, I’ll warn you – you may wet yourself from laughing.

Finally, a complete feast for your eyes, that I find always makes me think, Barb Uil’s JinkyArt photoblog. Just simply amazing family photography that inspires, delights and makes me think, Damn, why didn’t I do that!

The rules are:

1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think.
2. Link to the original post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.
3. Optional: Display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award

If you are interested in how the Food Styling class went… it was amazing! For more details, head over to the post on Still Life With…

Back to our regularly scheduled programming soon, I promise!

  1. Congratulations on the award. You certainly deserve it. Thanks for the links to blogs not food related, they all look cool. Congratulations to them, too.

  2. I’m checking back in and leaving another comment because I can’t help myself. All of the people you nominated have very cool sites and I’m so glad that you shared them with us, but it’s your picture that I keep coming back to. Such a great thinking self-portrait. You are a beautiful inspiration.
