STW Challenge for January: White

L

Maybe it’s all the snow and clouds my holiday was filled with. Maybe it’s all the powdered sugar I consumed. Maybe it’s just the idea of newness and freshness that the New Year brings… but this month, I’ve chosen White as the Still Life With theme. Let’s see what you can do with some white food shots!

A few thoughts on the subject: First, the photos don’t need to be all white, but should still feature white as a predominant color either in the food or the plating.

Secondly, to get good whites, you really need to get your exposure and your white balance right! This will be a good opportunity for critical feedback on your images… so when you submit, please be open to hearing that feedback! A good photo can really become a great one when all the whites are right.

Finally, extra bonus points for folks who do try white on white images! This is a great skill to work on!

BTW – Thanks all for the great Tradition shots & stories! There were some fantastic images and delightful tales!

The usual rules and are up on the Flickr group… the things like be constructive, take the photos during the month if possible, 3 photos per person and the last day is January 31st.

Happy New Year Everyone!

  1. very cool images. white on white is tough and i am quite impressed w/ these. powdered suger does make me think of the light, dry powder that we experienced last March on the heli-ski adventure up north.

    cheers from across the pond.
