Photo Contest from Food & Wine magazine

L

Not all the details are up yet, but it looks like Food and Wine magazine is going to be holding a food photo contest soon. Prizes include a Canon Digital Rebel XT as well as some Food & Wine books. Along with that, they’ve posted an article on food blogging and photography with tips from several food bloggers as well as one highlighting a few of what they think are the best of food photography on the web.

Sadly, they missed many of my favorites… sites that I simply would never leave off anything that I described as the Best-Shot blogs. Since they missed them, I’ll give them a shout out here:

Nordljus
Traveler’s Lunchbox
Matt Bites
Chubby Hubby
Delicious Days
Kuidaore
Eating Asia
Chocolate & Zucchini
Rice & Noodles

Of course, I’m leaving off so many more blogs with wonderful photography… you can find a lot more of my faves over in my links on the side.

(And thanks to Culinary Fool for the tip on the contest!)

  1. Thanks for mentioning us. I was disappointed that not a one of the chosen blogs (excellent blogs all, BTW) features photos of street food. There’s a real art to staging and photographing food well, but I think we’ve shown that street food (which is what a good portion of the world’s population exists on, BTW) in its natural state can be a thing of beauty too!
    Cheers,
    Robyn

  2. L, Thank you so much for mentioning my humble site. It’s such an honour to be listed by you and amongst the talented food photographers on your list. 🙂

  3. Thank you for mentioning the blogs that you feel were left out by F&W. I couldn’t agree with you more!

(And thanks for the head’s up about the contest.)

  4. Robyn – I agree with you, and am always amazed at the quality of the shots you manage to capture on Eating Asia! I’m always excited to see what you have coming next… it does such a wonderful job of making me feel like I’m almost there.

Mae – You completely deserve it with your wonderful photos!

Ivonne- You bet! I can’t wait to see the details…

  5. L, thank you for the mention! I can’t believe Aun at Chubby Hubby wasn’t mentioned as one of the three or four in the article. Or Melissa. Heck, or you, too. But there’s only so much space, I realize…

  6. Matt – of course! I can’t believe they left those out either… Not in anyway to diminish the fantastic blogs they listed, I still don’t think that Food & Wine gets blogs. I hope someone over there starts helping them wake up!

  7. Dear L, thanks very much for the mention! I agree with you that people at F&W don’t seem to have much of a clue about what’s going on in the food blogosphere, but then again none of the major print media seem to. I get frustrated that they keep mentioning the same few sites, regardless of the fact that wonderful new ones are popping up every week.

  8. I approve hearitly of your list. And I agree: Food & Wine still doesn’t get blogs.

A couple more of my favorites would be:

    • Stephen Cooks: every single recipe has a tempting photo to accompany it.

    • Ideas in Food: such inventive and skillful plates the married chefs have!

It’s a popularity contest, and all the same people appear in all the same places because the reporters want a quick story instead of doing some serious research themselves. In other words: they believe their own press: they can’t be bothered to go through a daunting list.

Anyway, thanks to Matt, I’m an instant subscriber to your fabulous and helpful blog.

  9. Hi Melissa – Of course! Your site’s photography is so incredible it’s ridiculous to have a list that would leave it off! Thanks for stopping by!

Tana – Thanks! I know there are many I must have missed… in fact just this morning I was looking at Greedy Goose and drooling. Thanks for adding these as well.
